Just when things looked like they might be set Port District have knocked off the Premiers for the second time this year. Now the top 5 is filled with uncertainty and Rostrevor’s title defence no longer locks the forgone conclusion many thought it was.
Best for Port was Gaelic football superstar “JJ” Jayden O’Neill. He was brilliantly supported by antagonistic midfielder Harley Tiller who managed to get on top his highly fancied opponents. This week Port are back home hosting Athelstone in a huge clash for both clubs. The Raggies had a heartbreaking 3-point home loss against Henley. Dominic Sangermano continued his rich vein of form in another BOG display. The Raggies upset Districts earlier this year but I am leaning towards the home team in this one.
Jeremy “Bubbles” Johncock was the hero with a late goal for the Sharks. That one kick has removed them from relegation discussion and kept their faint finals hopes alive. If they are to come from the clouds they will need to take a huge scalp and they have that opportunity this week when they host TTG. The Gullies easily accounted for Uni by 7 goals. Troy Menzel is really starting to hit top form and is the one the Sharks will need to stop.
Modbury fell to Goodwood by 13 goals with Timothy Davey named best. Once again, the football Gods appear to be against them as they get Rostrevor coming off a loss. Defender Sam Jonas was best for the Rocs in their loss on a day when the midfield had their colours lowered. I would not expect that to happen two weeks in a row.
